
Senior Vice President, Physician Services
John D. Angstadt, M.D., was named senior vice president of physician
services in 2008. He serves as a liaison between Memorial University
Medical Center and physicians throughout the community. Dr. Angstadt
addresses concerns raised by doctors and works to ensure that their
needs are met at Memorial. He also oversees financial and operational
management of Memorial Health University Physicians (MHUP), the
area’s largest physician practice group. Dr. Angstadt also
provides senior management oversight for the Curtis and Elizabeth
Anderson Cancer Institute and the physician practices aligned with
it.
Dr. Angstadt began working as a surgeon at Memorial in 2001. He developed and serves as medical director of Memorial Health Bariatrics, the region’s most comprehensive gastric bypass surgery program. Under his leadership, the program was designated a Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. And, it earned Blue Distinction from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia. Dr. Angstadt is also a member of the Savannah Colon and Rectal Surgery practice.
Dr. Angstadt is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He attended medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his residency and fellowship training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He has published numerous articles and is frequently asked to share his expertise through lectures and other speaking engagements.
