South University
Bill Lyght was first elected to the Memorial University Medical
Center board of directors in 1996. He was named again in 2005.
Lyght is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army.
He also retired as the first deputy police chief of the Savannah
Police Department. Lyght received his bachelor’s degree from
Morgan State University in Baltimore. He then earned his master’s
degree in administration of justice from the American University
in Washington, D.C.
Lyght serves on the board of governors of the Bethesda Home for
Boys and the board of directors of Gammon Theological Seminary in
Atlanta. He is a past president of the board of directors for the
Savannah Association for the Blind.
