Disease
Management Teams
Cancer care is complex. It involves numerous physicians, nurses,
dietitians, therapists, procedures, and therapies. This detailed setting
can be very challenging for patients and their families. To help patients
understand the treatment process and play an active role in planning
their own treatment, The Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute
at Memorial Health University Medical Center created a series of disease
management teams.
Each team, headed by a physician specialist, reviews and discusses
individual cases and helps the patient plan the most effective treatment
process. The teams also work to develop clinical practices guidelines,
create educational programs, implement new therapies, and develop grant
applications for additional funding and research. |
