Cafeteria Hours and 'At Your Request'
We’re pleased to offer our “At Your Request” menu service that allows patients to order meals from a restaurant-style menu. Upon admission, a patient is assessed by his nurse to determine if it is appropriate to participate in At Your Request. If it is, the patient can immediately order his first meal. The patient uses his bedside telephone to order any item on his diet at any time. The meal is cooked fresh and delivered within 45 minutes. This process aligns with Memorial University Medical Center’s patient and family centered care model of allowing patients to actively participate in their own care.
Visitors are welcome to dine in our cafeteria, located in the lower level of the medical center.
Cafeteria hours are:
Monday through Friday
6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Outside of the cafeteria, food and beverages can be purchased from the snack machines located on the first floor of Memorial University Medical Center or from vendors located in the main lobby pavilion or the lobby of the Heart & Vascular Institute.

Patient and Family Centered Care
Memorial offers a new style of care called patient and family centered care (PFCC). This initiative allows patients and their loved ones to be involved in their care and work as part of the healthcare team. They’re invited to participate in decision-making and may even help with certain procedures. They can have as much or as little involvement as they want, based on their own comfort level.
The core concepts of PFCC are:
- Dignity and Respect –- healthcare providers honor the family’s choices and respect their decisions.
- Information Sharing –- healthcare providers communicate with patients and families in a timely, complete, and accurate manner.
- Participation –- patients and families are encouraged to participate in care and decision-making.
- Collaboration –- healthcare leaders work with patients and families to constantly improve the level of care.
We’re proud to offer this new, forward-thinking style of care.

Spiritual Care
We understand that healing involves more than just the body, it involves the mind and spirit as well. Although religion and spirituality are closely related, they are not identical. That's why, in addition to prayer, our Department of Spiritual and Religious Care offers mental and emotional support for patients and their families. By offering these services, we are better able to help people experience wholeness in the healing process.
Our Department of Spiritual and Religious Care includes a team of full-time chaplains, more than 10 on-call contract chaplains, and volunteers. Our team is able to administer sacraments and conduct worship services. Other services include emotional/spiritual support, spiritual counseling/direction, assistance in accepting and coping with a diagnosis, assistance with end-of-life issues, ethical consultation, assistance with the organ/tissue donation process, and crisis intervention.
Contact the Department of Spiritual and Religious Care at 912-350-8335.
