
John C. Kane joined the Memorial Health Board of Directors in 2010. He has had a distinguished career in the biotechnology and pharmacy fields. Kane retired as president and chief operating officer at Cardinal Health, Inc., in 2000. Between 1993 and 2001, he helped guide Cardinal’s annual revenue growth from $2 billion to more than $44 billion.
Prior to leading Cardinal, Kane spent 19 years at Abbott Laboratories. He held a number of leadership positions within the company, including vice president of Puerto Rico operations, vice president of the agriculture and chemical products division, and president of the Ross Laboratories division.
After his “retirement,” Kane served as a director for Tenet Healthcare Corporation and a director of Greif Brothers Corporation. He has also actively participated on the boards of directors for a number of education and business organizations, including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy Board of Visitors and the board of the Columbus, Ohio, Symphony Orchestra.
Kane holds a bachelor’s degree in education from West Chester State College in Pennsylvania. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy for six years.
