
Vice President, Women's and Children's Services
Jean Wright, M.D., MBA, was named vice president of women’s
and children’s services at Memorial University Medical Center
(MUMC) in 2005. She joined MUMC in 2002 as the executive director
of the George and Marie Backus Children’s Hospital at MUMC.
Dr. Wright is board certified in pediatric critical care and is
a practicing pediatric intensivist.
Dr. Wright is originally from Detroit. She earned her undergraduate
degree at Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan, and at the University
of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She then graduated from Wayne State University
School of Medicine in Detroit. Dr. Wright completed her residency
training through Emory University in Atlanta and was chief resident
at Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta. She later earned
her MBA at Emory University School of Business and was given an
honorary doctor of divinity degree from Westminster College in Pennsylvania.
Before joining MUMC, Dr. Wright was vice president of medical management
at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She also previously served
as medical director of Egleston Children’s Hospital and CEO
of Egleston Pediatric Group. Throughout her career, she has held
a variety of leadership and academic positions related to pediatrics
and pediatric critical care. She is a fellow in the American Academy
of Pediatrics and the American College of Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Wright has testified before the U.S. House and Senate on issues
related to children’s health. She has also appeared in numerous
national television news shows, authored several book chapters,
and given lectures throughout the country.
