At Memorial University Medical Center, our vision is to create a new standard for healthcare by integrating compassionate healing, lifelong learning, and scientific discovery. To truly set a new standard, we are willing to share our medical outcomes and patient feedback with the public. Our honest, unedited results are listed here.
Why it Matters to You
We participate in several programs that measure the quality of our care. These programs look at our "patient outcomes," or how well our patients fared after receiving treatment at Memorial. You can use patient outcome data to help you find the best hospital and the best healthcare team. You can find a hospital that will meet your needs in a safe, comfortable environment. This allows you to have a voice in your care. When you choose the medical center with the best outcomes, you can be confident that you will receive the highest level of care.
Patient Outcomes
Memorial University Medical Center participates in the Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration, or HQID. More than 250 U.S. hospitals send their patient outcome information to HQID. The outcomes are reviewed and the hospitals receive compensation for having high scores. Outcomes are measured in three areas:
We are also part of the Surgical Care Improvement Project, or SCIP. This is a partnership of organizations working together to reduce complications from surgery and improve patient care.
Mortality Rates
Memorial University Medical Center has a notable record of saving lives. We care for many people who are so critically ill that they are not expected to survive, yet they pull through and recover with our help. In fact, when compared to similar hospitals, we have some of the best patient survival rates in the nation. We submit data about the lives we've saved and about those who have died to a company called Premier, Inc. The results are compared to other hospitals nationwide and used to help improve overall patient care.
Patient Satisfaction Scores
We've partnered with Press Ganey Associates to measure the satisfaction level of our patients.
A sample of our patients receives a survey after they leave Memorial. They answer questions about their stay, using a scale of "very poor" to "very good." Each response receives a point value and we determine a mean score based on those points:
Very Poor = 0
Poor= 25
Fair = 50
Good = 75
Very Good = 100
Our mean score is compared to the scores of 800 similar hospitals in the Press Ganey database. Scores are gathered for the following areas:
- Inpatient (people who are admitted to the hospital and stay overnight for any length of time)
- Outpatient (people who go to the hospital for care and return home the same day)
- Emergency Department (people who receive urgent medical care in our emergency department)
- Ambulatory Surgery (people who have surgery and return home the same day, without staying overnight in the hospital)
