When Memorial Hospital first opened its
doors back in 1955, a group of dedicated citizens gave their time
and energy to become its fist volunteers. Today, volunteers from
all walks of life still play a crucial role at Memorial University Medical Center.
Volunteers give a few hours each week to comfort a worried patient,
assist with administrative duties, or help a busy nurse. In return,
these people make a difference in someone's life, meet new friends,
stay active, and help to make our community healthier.
Opportunities to volunteer are almost unlimited. Volunteers may
serve in patient care areas, nursing units, administrative support
areas, or at special events and fundraising activities. There is
even a Summer Youth Volunteer Program for teens ages 15-18.
While on duty, volunteers enjoy free meals, free parking, credit
union privileges, in-service educational opportunities, and pharmacy
discounts. Volunteers are also invited to take part in Memorial
University Medical Center's special events and activities.
