The
Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute (ACI) at Memorial
Health University Medical Center building celebrated its grand opening
on August 27, 2003. The state-of-the-art facility houses medical
physics, medical and surgical oncology, a tumor registry, and oncology
multispecialty clinics. Other services offered by the ACI include
the region's only established pediatric and gynecologic
oncology programs; the region's only practicing board-certified
surgical oncologists; and the only practice in the area devoted
solely to women's breast health (the Center
for Breast Care).
Construction of the new building began in 2001, the same year that
the facility was named in honor of Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson,
the generous donors who helped to make it a reality. Curtis Anderson
is a retired investment banker in Savannah. He and his wife are
integrally involved in providing public and financial support for
ACI.
The ACI was the first facility in the area to offer some of the
most advanced cancer treatment available, including Dynamic Intensity
Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and the MammoSite Radiation Therapy
System. The ACI is proud to be southeast Georgia's most advanced
weapon in the fight against cancer.
The ACI is approved by the Commission on Cancer of the American
College of Surgeons.
