A cancer diagnosis is frightening and overwhelming. At the Anderson Cancer Institute, we understand and we want to help. Our nurse navigators guide families through the cancer treatment, recovery, and healing process.
Your nurse navigator will:
- Provide information to help you fully understand your treatment options.
- Work with your doctors, nurses, and other members of your treatment team to ensure coordination of services and quality care.
- Oversee and coordinate your care throughout the treatment process. This includes helping you schedule appointments, finding the services you need, and more.
- Provide support and information for you and your family.
- Help you to become an active participant in your care and maintain positive coping skills.
Our Nurse Navigators
The Anderson Cancer Institute’s oncology nurse navigators are registered nurses with master’s degrees, and extensive nursing and counseling experience.

Prior to that, she served as a nurse in the U.S. Navy, with subspecialties in oncology and women’s health. Payne retired from the Navy with 28 years of service and has been at Memorial University Medical Center since 1991.
Patricia Aiken, MSN, R.N., (right) earned her master’s degree as a clinical nurse specialist at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah. She is currently working on her advanced oncology clinical nurse specialist certification. Aiken joined our team in 2005.
