Palliative care is medical treatment to reduce the severity of symptoms and improve overall quality of life. During cancer treatment, palliative care can help ease pain, fatigue, nausea, and other symptoms. Palliative care is not the same as hospice care. While hospice care eases suffering during the end of life, when other treatments are stopped, palliative care can be given along with regular treatment and with any prognosis.
In 2004, the Anderson Cancer Institute formed a partnership with the Steward Center for Palliative Care in Savannah. We offer both inpatient and outpatient palliative care to help people cope with physical and emotional symptoms. The goal of the care is to ensure that patients are able to maintain a suitable quality of life during treatment
The outpatient palliative care clinic is open on Mondays and Thursdays at the Anderson Cancer Institute. Patients must be referred by a physician. For more information, call the Steward Center for Palliative Care at 912-354-8014.
