The inheritance of breast, ovarian, and colorectal cancers, as well as
the ethical, legal, and social issues related to genetic predispositions
to cancer.
Biography
C. Shai Huffard-King, M.S., CGC, has been practicing genetic counseling and hereditary risk evaluation since 2005. She came to Savannah from Manhattan where she was a prenatal genetic counselor in maternal fetal medicine at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital. She received her master’s degree from The Joan H. Marks Graduate Program in Human Genetics at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y. While there, Huffard-King gained experience in clinical genetics and cytogenetics from many of the area’s top medical and academic institutions, including Columbia University Medical Center, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and Long Island Jewish/North Shore University Hospital. Huffard-King has been board certified in genetic counseling since 2007. She currently serves as the coordinator and genetic counselor for The Center for Cancer Genetics at the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center. Huffard-King has been invited to speak at numerous community events and academic meetings, including regional and national nurse practitioner educational conferences from Valdosta, Ga., to New York, N.Y. She lectures to medical students and at grand rounds presentations.
