The
Breast Imaging Center at Memorial University Medical Center is a comprehensive facility for overall breast health, including cancer detection, treatment, and recovery. The center
is staffed by radiologists, a board-certified medical physicist, and nationally
certified imaging technologists. The team works
together to provide a full range of services. The Breast Imaging Center
has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. In addition, the breast care services at the Anderson Cancer Institute are accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
The following services are available
at the Breast Imaging Center:
- Screening mammography
- Diagnostic mammography
- Breast ultrasound
- Stereotactic needle biopsy
- Ultrasound-guided needle biopsy
- Breast MRI and MRI-guided biopsy
- Breast health education
- Training in breast self examination
Our director, Lesia Jackson, M.D., Ph.D., personally examines every patient who comes in for a diagnostic mammogram and guarantees that patients will receive their screening results within one business day.
If a patient needs a biopsy, it can be performed the same day and results are available within 48 hours. For MRI patients, results are available the same day. Jackson provides all diagnostic results herself and answers any questions patients may have. She has more than 20 years of experience in breast imaging.
The Breast Imaging Center is active in the community, supporting the
Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure" and collaborating with
the American Cancer Society in community education programs. The Breast
Imaging Center also participates in the “Breast Test and More”
program, an initiative to offer screening mammograms and diagnostic
breast services to women in financial need.
