If you qualify, your physician may ask you if you want to participate in a
clinical trial. A clinical trial is the process of testing a new drug or
therapy before it is marketed to the general public. You most likely will not
be paid to participate, but you will be monitored closely. If you choose to
participate, you will receive the same high levels of treatment you would
normally receive. You will not be asked to test something that is known to be
dangerous, and you will not be refused treatment for your cancer.
We enroll patients for clinical trials through our membership in the Gynecologic
Oncology Group (GOG), a highly reputable research organization.
Memorial University Medical Center's clinical trials are monitored by two Institutional Review
Boards. We have both a general board and an oncology board to look at all
studies and to protect the safety and welfare of the patients involved.
