How child life specialists can help your family during a hospital stay or medical experience For a child, going to the hospital can be a frightening experience. The hospital is full of strange sights, sounds, smells, and unfamiliar people. To help ease the stress, Backus Children's Hospital offers child life services for children, teens, and families. The goal of the child life program is to provide a supportive environment where children can gain a better understanding of the hospital, surgery, and medical treatments. The child life specialists at Backus Children's Hospital are specially trained to address the emotional needs of hospitalized children and adolescents.
