Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit

The Heart & Vascular Institute’s Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) provides world-class treatment and nursing care for people following a heart attack, congestive heart failure, cardiogenic shock, dysrhythmias, open-heart surgery, thoracic surgery, or vascular surgery. Additional CVICU treatments include intra-aortic balloon pumps, invasive monitoring, continuous venous hemodialysis, and ventilator support.

The people in the CVICU are critically ill and receive specialized around-the-clock care from skilled cardiac nurses. These nurses also serve as educators and advocates for patients and their families.
