Coronary Care Unit

Our Coronary Care Unit (CCU) is an intensive care area where serious heart problems are treated. Every person admitted to the unit is hooked up to a heart monitor. This allows the patient's heartbeat and other vital signs to be monitored continuously from a central area.

The CCU team works hard to improve the health of its critically ill patients. Treatments may include giving medicines to control blood pressure, opening blocked arteries, or treating abnormal heart rhythms. Blood work and other tests are often done to determine the exact cause of the problem. People who have suffered a heart attack stay in the CCU until they are stable.

The nurses on the CCU have all received special training to help their patients. They also provide education to the patients and the families and serve as patient advocates when needed.
