The on-call schedule varies according to year in residency
and rotation. As a PGY-1 (intern), the call schedule average is every
fourth night. Internal medicine is every fourth night. Pediatrics may
be every fifth or seventh night.
PGY-1
- Family medicine/internal medicine inpatient team (16 weeks) in-hospital overnight call is every fifth night.
- Obstetrics (8 weeks) in-hospital call averages every fifth night.
- Pediatrics inpatient (8 weeks) in-hospital call averages every fourth or fifth night depending on the size of the team.
- ICU (4 weeks) in-hospital call is every fourth night.
- You will have 16 weeks without call during your first year.
- You will have eight weeks free of in-house call.
PGY-2
- Family medicine/internal medicine inpatient team (12 weeks) in-hospital overnight call is every fifth night.
- Surgery (8 weeks) you will average in-hospital call every fifth night.
- All other months are free of in-house call.
PGY-3
- ICU (4 weeks) in-hospital call is every fourth night.
- There is no other in-hospital call for the other blocks during your third year.
