Greetings from Memorial University Medical Center's Family Medicine Residency Program.
I hope you will take a few minutes to look through our Web site. Whether you're a graduate student seeking a residency position or a senior medical student desiring electives, you'll find plenty of helpful information here.
Our program is unique among family medicine residencies in that it combines the assets of an opposed program with the advantages of a large teaching and research hospital. The hospital, Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC), is a 530-bed tertiary care facility with the region's only trauma center. Memorial University Medical Center has an affiliation with Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Ga. and is the home of Mercer's second campus. This Savannah campus was established in 2007. Our entire faculty holds academic appointments in the Mercer School of Medicine.
Our Family Medicine Residency Program has a six-physician faculty. Our faculty-to-resident ratio is 1:3. This small ratio provides an intimate environment for learning, professional dialogue, and development of collegiality. The faculty's offices are located in the Family Medicine Center just two blocks from the hospital, and are easily accessible to residents at all hours. The Family Medicine Center was built in 1993 and has 20 exam rooms, 21 cubicles for resident and student desks, and staff services. Each resident is assigned his or her own cubicle. Our residents are partners with the faculty in a 24-person full-service group family medicine practice.
We are also proud to offer a two-year post-graduate fellowship in applied health information technology. Established in July 2009, this fellowship is the first of its kind in the United States. For 10 years in a row, Memorial University Medical Center has been included on the list of the nation's 100 Most Wired Hospitals (published annually in Hospitals and Health Networks magazine. Our applied health information technology fellowship continues our residency program's emphasis on the use of technology to improve patient care and safety.
Our residents and students can experience the full spectrum of care, including morning rounds, busy days in the office, and unpredictable late-night calls to labor and delivery. A typical day also includes noontime lectures most days of the week, with presentations by local and guest faculty. Noon conferences are mandatory and most residents are released from their rotations to attend. There are some rotations in which residents attend nooon conferences on their rotation services instead of coming to the family medicine conferences. Our group practice makes all of this possible within the framework of a viable lifestyle that allows you to enjoy the city of Savannah.

Savannah is located on the Atlantic coast of Georgia. Tourism is a booming industry in the city. Our downtown region features horse-drawn carriage rides through a series of small parks (squares) lined with moss-draped oak trees. There are 21 squares throughout our elegant Historic District. The Atlantic Ocean is accessed locally from the beach on Tybee Island, just 25 minutes from the Family Medicine Center. Tidal rivers, creeks, and marshes surround Savannah. Hilton Head Island, S.C., and St. Simons Island, Ga., are within an hour's drive of Savannah. Jacksonville, Fla., is a two-hour interstate drive south of Savannah.
The Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requires that residencies maintain high academic and training standards, and we take that very seriously. As our nation's healthcare system evolves, we are confident that the students and residents trained at Memorial University Medical Center will be prepared to practice in this new era of medicine. Join us for three years of post-graduate medical training in the Coastal Empire.
We look forward to hearing from you. If you would like further information
