Every resident is expected by the American Board
of Pediatrics to participate in a scholarly activity. Each resident
is encouraged to develop a research project during the three years
in the program. Residents may pursue projects under the mentoring
of faculty in general pediatrics or pediatric subspecialists with
research experience.
Institutional support is available through
Memorial University Medical Center's Research Department in the form of grants,
study design, study coordination, statistical support, and medical
editing and writing. Residents gain skills in formal presentations
by presenting at resident grand rounds on a topic of interest. Residents
are also encouraged to present their scholarly activities and research
at local venues such as the annual Memorial University Medical Center Research Day
and Mercer University School of Medicine Research Day, as well as
regional and national specialty meetings.
