Welcome
to the Pediatric Residency Program at Memorial University
Medical Center (MUMC) in Savannah, Ga. We are committed to training
highly qualified pediatric generalists in an academic hospital setting.
We offer a full range of clinical experience from birth to adolescence.
Our house staff work directly with world-class general pediatricians
and pediatric subspecialists in hematology/oncology, allergy/immunology,
cardiology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, endocrinology,
neonatology, neurology, developmental/behavioral medicine, neurosurgery,
orthopedics, and pediatric surgery. Affiliated with Mercer University
School of Medicine and the Medical College of Georgia, our program's
house staff participates in teaching medical students and conducting
clinical research.
The George
and Marie Backus Children's Hospital is located within Memorial
University Medical Center and is a vital component of our regional healthcare organization.
It is comprised of 41 general pediatric beds, 10 pediatric critical
care beds, 20 intensive care beds, and 24 intermediate care beds
in a Level III neonatal intensive care nursery. In addition, there are 36 newborn bassinets
to accommodate MUMC's 2,500+ deliveries per
year. Approximately 4,000 patients are seen monthly in the Backus
Children's Hospital Outpatient Center in general, subspecialty,
and rehabilitation pediatrics.
There is extensive community support for Backus Children's Hospital,
including a major effort on the part of the Children's Miracle Network.
Backus is an active participant in many family-oriented community
agencies, local and regional health departments, and urban and rural
health projects.
In addition to providing world-class pediatric healthcare services,
Savannah is a great place to live. It is the site of one of the
largest historic districts in the United States. Located just 20
minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, Savannah offers year-round recreational
opportunities and sporting events. We also have dozens of museums,
multiple theater companies, and monthly arts and entertainment festivals.
Savannah has supported diverse cultural activities for more than
two centuries.
We think you will be as enthusiastic about our pediatric residency
and our outstanding city as we are.
Sincerely,
Eric M. Pearlman, M.D., Ph.D.
