Our nursing vision is: Experience and share the joy of nursing.

Our Nursing Philosophy
We, the nursing team of Memorial University Medical Center, reaffirm our belief that nursing is the art and science of human caring. Nursing is a hands-on humanitarian profession that acts as an advocate for patients.

We, through collaboration with physicians and other Team Members, support our patients' efforts to attain self-defined quality of life. We provide holistic care that encompasses patients' diverse needs, regardless of diagnosis, lifestyle, race, socioeconomic class, or creed. We shall meet individual patient care needs with compassion, respect, and clinical expertise. We believe in the rights of patients, families, and significant others to participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of each patient's care. We honor and accept the trust that patients and their families place in us.

We support our organization's mission. We believe that healthcare is not limited to illness. Healthcare encompasses a continuum from wellness through illness to restore health when possible or provide supportive palliative care, when not. We are dedicated to fulfilling care needs during the entire continuum through the art and science of nursing practice.

We believe in the efficient and cost-effective use of resources.

We are committed to creating an environment conducive to excellence in practice by nurturing individual potential and professional growth. We respect and support all nurses for the specialized contributions they make to positively affect care and outcomes. We hold each other and ourselves accountable for professional behavior and autonomy. We believe nurses are responsible for their continuous professional and personal development. We are committed to the retention, growth, and continued development of nurses through teaching, mentoring, innovation, and research based on scientific nursing theories.

We shall listen, support, and nurture one another with dignity, humor, and pride.
