Lower Extremity Bypass Surgery
In cases of severe blockage, surgery may be necessary. A surgery bypass
creates a detour around the blocked section of your artery. To create this
bypass, your surgeon uses one of your own veins or a special man-made tube
designed for this procedure. The bypass is attached above and below the area of
the blockage, which creates a new path for your blood to flow into your leg
tissues. This usually requires hospital admission for several days and requires
a longer period of recovery.
