Inpatient Rehabilitation
The inpatient unit of the Rehabilitation Institute at Memorial
Health University Medical Center is for people who require hospitalization
during their recovery. On the inpatient unit, we focus on abilities
rather than disabilities. Our primary goal is to help patients return
to a fulfilling, independent lifestyle despite physical limitations
caused by an accident or illness.
Rehabilitation is an active process that requires hard work,
patience, and determination. Our highly trained team cares for, teaches,
advises, supports, and encourages people to reach their highest possible
level of independence.
Patients are in therapy seven days a week. We offer educational
and social activities in the evening. When appropriate, we also make
outings into the community. All of our activities are designed to help
patients regain a sense of independence.
Family members are expected to be active participants in the
rehab team. We encourage family involvement and teach families how to
care for a person with a disability after that person leaves the hospital.
