The Rehabilitation Institute's industrial services program helps people
return to work after an injury and educates employers about safe
work environments.
People admitted to the industrial services program have
a medical diagnosis that limits their
ability to work, such as
multi-trauma, traumatic brain injury, burns, amputation,
spinal cord injury, chronic low back pain, cumulative trauma injury,
musculoskeletal
dysfunction, or other major orthopedic or neurological
conditions.
Industrial therapy may include:
- Work hardening/conditioning
- Simulation of work activities
- Exercise activities designed to improve overall work tolerance
- Education in body mechanics
- Injury prevention education
- Chronic pain management techniques
Our industrial services therapists work closely with Memorial
University Medical Center's WorkOne program. In addition to treating individuals, the industrial
services program provides assistance and guidance to businesses on the
following topics:
- Education on body mechanics and injury prevention
- Americans with Disabilities Act consultations
- Ergonomics analysis
- Job site analysis
- Screenings and functional capacity evaluations
- OSHA training
- Injury prevention programs
