James Lindley, Jr., M.D.
Spine Surgery | James Lindley, Jr., M.D.Dr. Lindley is one of the physician champions who helped us develop and launch Memorial Spine™. He attended the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, and completed his residency training in general surgery and neurosurgery at the Bowman Gray School for Medicine/Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Dr. Lindley has written and published works on meningiomas, intracranial aneurysms, spinal tumors, and head injury. He practices at the Neurological Institute of Savannah.

Raphael Roybal, M.D.
Spine Surgery | Raphael Roybal, M.D.Dr. Roybal was instrumental in the creation of Memorial Spine. He earned his medical degree at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque and did his residency training at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Dr. Roybal then completed an orthopedic fellowship at the Texas Back Institute. He has extensive experience in all facets of spine, surgery including minimally invasive and motion sparing techniques. He practices at Chatham Orthopaedic Associates.

Christopher Senkowski, M.D.
Spine Surgery | Christopher Senkowski, M.D.Dr. Senkowski attended Harvard Medical School and completed his internship and residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He is board certified in surgery and critical care and has earned a number of awards for his outstanding surgical skills. Dr. Senkowski assists our spine surgeons when requested by providing safe access to the spine from the front of the body through a small incision with no muscle injury. He was among the first surgeons in the nation to perform single incision laparoscopic surgery for gallbladder removal. Dr. Senkowski practices at ACI – Surgical Associates.

Kevin Ammar, M.D.
Spine Surgery | Kevin Ammar, M.D.Dr. Ammar earned his medical degree at the University of Florida and did his residency training in neurosurgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He completed a dual neurosurgical/orthopedic fellowship in complex spinal procedures at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Ammar specializes in complex spine conditions, spinal deformity, spinal tumors, and minimally invasive spine surgery.

Roy Baker, M.D.
Spine Surgery | Roy Baker, M.D.Dr. Baker attended medical school at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He completed his residency training and a fellowship in neurosurgery at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Baker specializes in spine care and spine surgery and regularly treats complex back and neck cases.

Randolph Bishop, M.D.
Dr. Bishop earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri. He completed his residency training in neurosurgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He specializes in minimally invasive techniques, spinal disorders, and pediatric spinal deformities.

Cliff Cannon, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Cannon was one of the original founders of the Neurological Institute of Savannah and Center for Spine. He attended the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and completed residency training in general surgery and neurosurgery at Emory University. Dr. Cannon specializes in complex back and neck problems.

Louis Horn, IV, M.D.
Spine Surgery | Louis Horn, IV, M.D.Dr. Horn graduated from Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his internship in the department of surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, and received his neurological surgery training through a residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, also in Dallas. He specializes in neurological surgery.

Jay Howington, M.D.
Spine Surgery | Jay Howington, M.D.Dr. Howington earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia and did an internship in general surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. He then completed his neurosurgical residency at Louisiana State University in New Orleans. This included training at Charity Hospital, Children’s Hospital, and the Ochsner Clinic. Next, Dr. Howington pursued a two-year fellowship in endovascular neurosurgery under Dr. Nick Hopkins in Buffalo, New York. He has special interest in the surgical management of cervical spine disease and peripheral nerve lesions.

Daniel Suh, M.D.
Spine Surgery | Daniel Suh, M.D.Dr. Suh earned his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed a residency in general surgery along with a residency in neurosurgery at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. Dr. Suh also holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in clinical psychology from Bowling Green State University. He completed an internship in clinical psychology at Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City.

Willard Thompson, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Thompson earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He completed his residency training in neurological surgery at Ohio State Medical Center. He also did an internship in general surgery at Ohio State Medical Center. Dr. Thompson completed a fellowship that focused in pediatric neurological surgery at the University of Texas at Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas Children’s Medical Center.

Fremont Wirth, M.D.
Spine Surgery | Fremont Wirth, M.D.Dr. Wirth holds a medical degree from Vanderbilt University. He completed a surgical internship and general surgical fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He served as a clinical associate in neurosurgery at the National Institutes of Health for two years. Dr. Wirth completed his neurosurgery residency and fellowship at Barnes Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis. He has years of experience in the management of cervical and lumbar disc disease, including minimally invasive and microsurgical approaches.

He completed his residency training at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. His fellowship training in spine surgery was completed under the direction of Dr. John Moe. Dr. Dewberry specializes in the treatment of spine and neck conditions.

Krishna V. Gumidyala, M.D.
Spine Surgery | Krishna Gumidyala, M.D. Dr. Gumidyala graduated with honors from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. He trained as an orthopedic surgery resident at the University of Tennessee/Campbell Clinic. He then completed a fellowship in orthopedic spine surgery at the University of California-San Francisco. Dr. Gumidyala specializes in spine surgery and joint replacement.

Bradley Alan Heiges, M.D.
Spine Surgery | Bradley Alan Heiges, M.D.Dr. Heiges attended Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his residency at Pennsylvania State University/Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey. He also completed a fellowship in orthopedic/neurological spine disorders at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital. Dr. Heiges specializes in treating the spine and neck.

Thomas Lawhorne, III, M.D.
Spine Surgery | Thomas Lawhorne, III, M.D.Dr. Lawhorne attended medical school at Emory University in Atlanta. He did his residency training at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He then completed a fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He specializes in the spine and general orthopedics.

Anesthesiologists
Anesthesiologists are physicians trained to administer and manage anesthesia during a surgical procedure. They also manage and treat changes in your breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure during surgery. After surgery, your anesthesiologist will monitor you and treat any conditions related to the anesthesia.

Physical Therapists
Physical therapists are medical professionals who specialize in motion and mobility issues. They will help you increase your movement through exercise.

Occupational Therapists
Occupational therapists are medical professionals who specialize in helping people perform everyday tasks that are necessary to lead an independent life. After surgery, your occupational therapist will help you learn how to dress, bathe, and perform basic household tasks while recovering from your procedure.

Registered Nurses
Registered nurses provide comfort, care, and education. Your nurses will help ensure that you feel comfortable and your pain is controlled, that you are recovering and meeting your treatment goals, and that you fully understand your treatment plan.

Case Manager
Case managers work with patients, their families, and insurance providers. They'll monitor you to see that staff recommendations are being followed. They also help file paperwork, arrange future services, and ensure that treatment plans are helping you reach your goals in a cost-efficient manner.

Care Coordinator
Your spine care coordinator will help you arrange appointments, educate you about your surgery, ensure that you attend the required pre-surgical class, and answer any questions you may have.
