Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment Begins November 1

(October 28, 2016) – Nearly 13 million people enrolled in the Health Insurance Marketplace last year, but about 11 percent of Americans still lack coverage of any kind. That can change when open enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace begins November 1 and continues through January 31, 2017.

Memorial Health supports efforts to educate consumers about their options for health insurance through the Marketplace.

Certified navigators are available at no cost to consumers to answer questions and offer enrollment assistance at J.C. Lewis Primary Health Care Center and Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Inc. They offer extended hours during open enrollment for walk-ins and appointments.

All Marketplace insurance plans cover physician visits, hospitalizations, pregnancy care, emergency department visits, and prescriptions. Financial help may be available for those who qualify, based on their income. Coverage is available to all U.S. citizens and documented immigrants. Qualifying health plans cannot deny coverage to any individual with a pre-existing condition.

Those who enroll by December 15 will receive coverage beginning January 1, 2017. There are three ways to enroll: by phone (800-318-2596), online at healthcare.gov, or by appointment with a certified navigator.

Right from the Start Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids Medicaid programs are for children up to age 19 whose families meet specific income requirements. Parents may enroll their children in them any time throughout the year. To learn more, visit healthykidssavannah.org.
