Mary Ann Beil Receives Prestigious Heroes in Healthcare Ethics Award

(May 30, 2007) - Mary Ann Beil was named a 2007 Heroes in Health Care Ethics Award winner by the Health Care Ethics Consortium of Georgia (HCECG). Beil is vice president of ethics and compliance at Memorial Health. She is widely recognized as an expert in her field and frequently lectures and writes on the subject. Beil actively implemented ethics education, corporate ethics and compliance programs, and bioethics services at Memorial Health. Her bioethics initiative encourages a deeper level of thinking regarding end-of-life issues. In addition, Beil's work with Memorial Health's Institutional Review Board has ensured that research trials involving human subjects are compliant and transparent. Beil's innovative training programs are included in Memorial Health's orientation program and are part of the organization's annual required training for all of its Team Members. Criteria for the Heroes in Health Care Ethics Award include a longtime commitment to ethics in healthcare at the institutional, local, state, or national level as reflected in institutional committee work, active participation in the work of HCECG, leadership positions in professional associations or groups, and contributions to ethics knowledge through publication of articles, chapters, and books, in the field of healthcare ethics. Founded in 1994, the HCECG provides educational programs and consulting services for physicians, staff of member organizations, and the community. Membership is comprised of hospitals and health systems, home health agencies, hospice programs, long-term care facilities, managed care organizations, and rehabilitation centers.
