MUMC in Savannah Named ‘Most Wired’ for 12th Year

(July 18, 2011) - Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC) in Savannah, Georgia, has been named one of the nation's Most Wired hospitals for the 12th consecutive year. The results were announced in the July 2011 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, the journal of the American Hospital Association.

The annual survey examined 1,388 of the nation's hospitals on their use of Internet technologies in four focus areas: business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, care continuum (ambulatory/physician/community), and infrastructure. Memorial is one of only four hospitals in Georgia to receive the Most Wired designation this year. The others are Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, VA Southeast Network -VISN in Duluth, and WellStar Health System in Marietta.

"Every day at Memorial, our Team Members strive to provide world-class care in a manner that is efficient, cost effective, and safe. We use technology to enhance our medical care and our business practices. This 'Most Wired' recognition lets us know that we're doing the right thing for our patients," said Maggie Gill, MBA, president and CEO of Memorial Health.

Most Wired hospitals show better outcomes in patient satisfaction, risk-adjusted mortality rates, and other key quality measures through the use of information technology (I.T.).

"Greater adoption of I.T. can bring important new tools to our efforts to improve the safety and quality of care in hospitals, and better coordinate care across settings," says Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association (AHA). "To promote further use of information technology, we are aggressively working to remove regulatory barriers and provide clarity in areas such as the meaningful use criteria."
