(February 8, 2011) - Oliver Whipple, M.D., FACS, was appointed
the new medical director of Memorial Health
Whipple is board certified and specially trained to
laparoscopically perform the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure,
the adjustable gastric band, and the sleeve gastrectomy. All of
these procedures are offered at Memorial Health Bariatrics to help
morbidly obese people achieve a healthy weight.
Whipple earned his undergraduate degree at the University of
Georgia and attended Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon.
He completed his residency training at Memorial University Medical
Center and was accepted into a laparoscopic fellowship at the
Cleveland Clinic in Florida. He joined Memorial Health Bariatrics
in 2005. In 2009, he was named Young Surgeon of the Year by the
Georgia chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation and the
American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. It is a
BlueCross BlueShield of Georgia Blue Distinction Center for
