MUMC Spine Surgery Program Earns Premium Designation

(June 29, 2012) - Memorial Spine, a center of excellence for spine surgery and the treatment of spine conditions at Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC), has received the UnitedHealth Premium® Surgical Spine Specialty Center designation for quality care.

UnitedHealthcare developed the UnitedHealth Premium specialty center program to give its members information and access to hospitals meeting rigorous quality criteria. The designation is based on detailed information about specialized training, practice capabilities, and outcomes. It is designed to help members make informed decisions should they need surgical spine care.

"To receive this designation, our quality and patient outcomes were carefully scrutinized. UnitedHealthcare also looked at our breadth and depth of care, staff experience, and emergency care, all of which met nationally recognized medical standards" said Raphael Roybal, M.D., physician champion for Memorial Spine and a surgeon at Chatham Orthopaedic Associates.

"Our technology and highly skilled team have made us a leader in spine care. We offer the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques and access to leading-edge clinical trials. This UnitedHealth Premium designation recognizes our efforts to give our patients the high-level care they deserve," James Lindley, M.D., physician champion for Memorial Spine and a surgeon at the Neurological Institute of Savannah.
