Birthday Event to Honor Longtime Memorial Physician

(March 2, 2012) - The Memorial Health Foundation will host a 65th birthday celebration to honor William (Bill) Wessinger, M.D., at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 13, at the Charles H. Morris Center. Proceeds from this event will support the campaign for the refurbishment of the emergency department at Memorial University Medical Center.

An orthopedic surgeon, Wessinger joined Memorial Health in 1981, and has served as both chief of staff and vice president of medical affairs. He was named senior vice president for medical and academic affairs in 1999 when the hospital was officially designated the Savannah Campus of Mercer University School of Medicine.

At Memorial, Wessinger became almost synonymous with the emergency department. He frequently met patients and families there, serving as an ambassador to assist in providing compassionate care. Because of his close connection to our emergency services, the event in his honor will raise funds to refurbish the department for future patients. Proceeds from the celebration will be used to enhance the appearance of the emergency department and comfort patients.
