(June 19, 2014) – Memorial Health has formed a strategic partnership with HealthSouth Corporation (NYSE: HLS). The two organizations will build a 50-bed freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Savannah. HealthSouth is the nation’s largest owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, serving patients through its network of inpatient facilities, outpatient clinics, and home health agencies.
The new facility, which will be named the Rehabilitation Hospital of Savannah, will be jointly owned by Memorial and HealthSouth. It will provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art inpatient rehabilitation to patients who have experienced stroke, trauma, brain and spinal cord injury, orthopaedic injury, other neurological conditions, amputations, or other major illnesses or injuries. The new hospital is expected to open in early 2016.
Our partnership with HealthSouth will benefit Memorial, our Team Members, and our patients in a number of ways," said Maggie Gill, president and CEO of Memorial Health. "In December, we announced that inpatient rehabilitation services would move into the main hospital as part of the children’s hospital growth strategy. Now, these patients will have access to a brand new facility that is uniquely designed for rehabilitation services. Because HealthSouth focuses exclusively on rehabilitation, our patients will continue to receive high quality, specialized care."
Both organizations bring important components to the relationship. Memorial has the Certificate of Need, 50 licensed rehabilitation beds, and excellent Team Members. HealthSouth brings their experience in building and operating rehabilitation hospitals as well as the capital for construction.
