Christopher Senkowski, M.D., FACS
Director of Memorial Minimally Invasive Surgery
Christopher Senkowski, M.D., FACS, is the director of Memorial Minimally Invasive Surgery. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan in 1986 and received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. After completing a general surgery residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, Dr. Senkowski entered a fellowship in trauma/critical care at the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, affiliated with The University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Senkowski later worked at Mount Sinai Medical Center and was a visiting attending surgeon for humanitarian surgical relief in Paris. In 1998, he joined Memorial University Medical center. In 2009, he became the first surgeon in the region and one of the first in the country to offer single incision laparoscopic spleen removal. Dr. Senkowski is widely published and highly respected in the field of advanced laparoscopic surgery. He is active on a national level in areas of health policy, quality initiatives, and legislative action for general surgery. This includes serving on an expert panel evaluating surgical and clinical measures to improve patient care for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Oliver Whipple, M.D., FACS
Oliver Whipple, M.D., FACS, is the medical director of Memorial Health Bariatrics, the weight-loss surgery program at Memorial University Medical Center. Dr. Whipple attended the University of Georgia as an undergraduate. He was in his second year of pharmacy school when he decided to change paths and become a surgeon. Dr. Whipple entered medical school at Mercer University School of Medicine in 1995. In 1999, he began his residency training at Memorial University Medical Center. Dr. Whipple then completed fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at The Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston, Florida. He returned to Memorial to work as a surgeon and educator. Dr. Whipple is specially trained to perform the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure and the adjustable gastric band laparoscopically. In 2009, he was named Young Surgeon of the Year by the Georgia chapter of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Whipple is board certified in general surgery. Carl Boyd, M.D., FACS
Carl Boyd, M.D., FACS, earned his medical degree at the University of Kentucky. He completed his surgical residency training at Memorial University Medical Center. From 1983 to 1993, Dr. Boyd had his own surgical practice and was appointed director of trauma services and medical director of Memorial’s emergency transport program. In 1993, he was named director of the department of surgical education, a position he held until 2001. Dr. Boyd is a member of numerous local and national professional societies and has published more than 40 articles in nationally recognized journals. Patrick Hammen, M.D., FACS
Patrick Hammen, M.D., FACS, completed medical school at Mercer University School of Medicine. He continued his training in the surgery residency program at Memorial University Medical Center and graduated from the residency program in 1997. Dr. Hammen then completed a fellowship in colorectal surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He is board certified in general surgery and colorectal surgery. S. Alan Lord, M.D., FACS
S. Alan Lord, M.D., FACS, graduated cum laude from the Medical College of Georgia in 1981, attended Mercer University School of Medicine, and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia 1988. He continued his training in the surgical residency program at Memorial University Medical Center and graduated in 1994. After his residency, Dr. Lord completed a fellowship in colorectal surgery at Orlando Regional Medical Center. In addition to membership in several medical societies, he is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and part of the Southeastern Surgical Congress. Jeffrey S. Mandel, M.D., FACS
Jeffrey S. Mandel, M.D., FACS, earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. He then completed his residency training in general surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. In 2001, he accepted a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York. He then worked as a surgeon in Alexandria, Virginia, before coming to Savannah in 2004. Dr. Mandel is a partner at Savannah Surgical Oncology, LLC. Yaron Perry, M.D.
Yaron Perry, M.D., attended the Hebrew University School of Medicine in Jerusalem, Israel, and trained as a resident at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem and Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He then completed fellowships in minimally invasive surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Anesthesiologists
Anesthesiologists are physicians trained to administer and manage anesthesia during a surgical procedure. They also manage and treat changes in your breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure during surgery. After surgery, your anesthesiologist will monitor you and treat any conditions related to the anesthesia. |
