Genetic Counseling

Memorial Health University Physicians Savannah Perinatology offers genetic counseling services for women throughout the region. Genetic counseling consists of a consultation with a qualified genetic counselor to review your family history for inherited diseases, and to assess potential risks in a pregnancy. Genetic counselors provide educational information and can often help minimize undue worry. They discuss the advantages and disadvantages of genetic testing and arrange tests when needed.

There are many types of genetic counseling. Prenatal genetic counseling is routinely offered prior to conception or during pregnancy. Genetic counseling is also performed for adult disorders and hereditary cancer syndromes.
