High-Risk Pregnancy

A high-risk pregnancy is one in which the health of the mother and/or baby is at risk. Women with a high-risk pregnancy are monitored closely and may have to take special precautions and undergo specific tests and procedures throughout pregnancy.

Savannah Perinatology Associates is a Memorial Health University Physicians practice that specializes in caring for women with high-risk pregnancies. Savannah Perinatology Associates has been providing technologically advanced perinatal testing and high-risk obstetric care since 1989. It is the only specialty care practice of its kind in southeast Georgia. The group works closely with the Women's Health Institute to provide care for mothers with the following conditions:

• Multiple birth gestation (twins, triplets, or more)
• Previous birth defects
• High blood pressure
• Diabetes
• Kidney disease
• Health problems not directly related to pregnancy

The team at Savannah Perinatology Associates includes two master's level genetic counselors, six sonographers with more than 35 years of combined high-risk ultrasound experience, and three registered nurses with extensive high-risk labor and delivery experience.

• Preconception counseling
• Medical consultation for high-risk pregnancies
• Level I and diagnostic Level II ultrasound
• Management of pregnancies with confirmed fetal abnormalities
• Non-stress and biophysical profile testing for fetal well-being
• Amniocentesis (traditional and early) for prenatal testing
• Fetal maturity and antibody sensitization
• PUBS (fetal blood sampling)
• First trimester/sequential screening for referred patients
• Testing and management of chronic maternal diseases
• Physician referral services
• Prenatal genetic counseling
