    Working Parents

    To assist working parents in balancing their busy schedules, Memorial University Medical Center offers a number of family-friendly services, including but not limited to:


    • On-site child-care center, LittleOne.
    • Creative scheduling -- In many areas, Team Members are allowed to set their schedules themselves for the shifts they prefer to work. Some non-clinical areas also offer telecommuting schedules to help Team Members balance their work and professional lives. Many Team Members find that a condensed work week schedule, such as three 12-hour shifts, helps them find more time for family.
    • Discount childbirth classes -- All of Memorial University Medical Center's childbirth classes are half-price for Team Members.
    • Leave of absence -- Eligible Team Members may request medical, family, personal, education, military, and workers' compensation leave time.
    • Financial planning -- Memorial University Medical Center's retirement account provider, AIG VALIC, has on-site advisors to help Team Members learn valuable financial management skills.


    Newly Graduated Nurses

    Our residency programs prepare newly licensed nurses for an exciting career. We give nurses the mentoring and guidance they need to excel. Residencies include:


    • New graduate -- This program offers 360 precepted hours and 40 hours of facilitated learning in a classroom setting. Areas include medicine/renal, psychiatry, oncology, neuroscience, vascular, orthopaedic trauma, rehabilitation, inpatient surgery, dialysis, neonatal intensive care, pediatrics, pediatric hematology/oncology, mother/baby, labor and delivery, day surgery, observation unit, and 23-hour unit.
    • Operating room -- This six-month program includes four to six weeks of didactic training. The remaining time you will be assigned to a preceptor and rotate through all areas of the O.R. You will learn aseptic techniques, surgical instrumentation, proper patient positioning for all general surgeries, endoscopic surgeries, laser techniques, and much more. Upon completion of this program, you will be prepared to circulate, scrub, and take call in our state-of-the-art operating suites.
    • Critical care/emergency department -- This 10-week program includes exposure to our adult and pediatric ICUs, including medical/surgical/trauma, neuroscience, cardiac, telemetry, and PACU, as well as E.R. and medical/surgical intermediate care unit, with concentrated clinical time in the unit of your choice. This program will help you expand your experience base and develop the core knowledge and skills required to care for the high-acuity patients in our adult critical care units through didactic and clinical training. An ACLS provider class is included.


    Health and Fitness Buffs


    • For the health and safety of our patients and Team Members, the entire Memorial University Medical Center campus is smoke-free, both inside and outside.
    • Memorial University Medical Center has an on-site health and fitness facility (FitnessOne) complete with weight-training equipment, cardio equipment, an aerobic room, an indoor walking track, personal trainers, a fully equipped Pilates studio, a variety of group exercise classes, and locker rooms. All benefit-eligible Team Members receive a free membership to the facility for themselves, their spouses, and their children.
    • A wellness team that includes a registered nurse, dietitian, and wellness coach. They help Team Members set and achieve personal health goals and improve their overall wellness. Team Members that participate in the wellness program may be eligible for a discount on their insurance premiums.  


    Military Veterans in Transition


    • Military/National Guard duty pay -- Team Members who are called up for military service can have the difference in their regular base wages and military pay reimbursed up to a maximum of 80 hours per year for military leave and/or training. In addition, a military leave of absence with pay shall be granted for the period of military duty/deployment during a time of engagement. We've been recognized by the Department of Defense for providing extraordinary support for our employees in the Georgia National Guard and Reserve.
    • Military Relations Committee -- This committee offers emotional support to Team Members whose relatives are deployed. The committee offers monthly support group meetings, collects items to send to troops overseas, and provides other activities for military families.


    Students and Interns

    Memorial University Medical Center offers many opportunities for students to learn and earn a paycheck at the same time.

    Fun Seekers

    One of Memorial University Medical Center's core values is "enjoyment." We believe in providing opportunities for our Team Members to have a little fun.


    • Annual Chili Cook-off -- Our Team Members make a mean pot of chili at this annual fall fling. There are competitions, prizes, music, and lots of chili tasting.
    • Hospital Week/Nurses Week -- During these annual events, we play games, hand out prizes, and present special gifts to celebrate our Team Members and patients.
    • Additional events -- Throughout the year, many departments hold their own fun events, including talent shows, dance competitions, picnics, and group outings.
