  • Oliver Whipple, M.D., FACS, Medical Director
    Dr. Oliver Whipple is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons. He is specially trained to perform the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure, the adjustable gastric band, and sleeve gastrectomy laparoscopically. After earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia, Dr. Whipple attended medical school at Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon. He completed his residency at Memorial University Medical Center and then completed a laparoscopic fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida.     Robert J. Kelly Jr., M.D., FACS, Bariatric Surgeon
    Dr. Kelly is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in general surgery at Memorial University Medical Center. Dr. Kelly served as a fellow and instructor in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center before joining Memorial Health Bariatrics. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and has specialized training to perform the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure, the adjustable gastric band, and sleeve gastrectomy laparoscopically.

    Jody Hannah, M.S., PAC
    Jody Hannah is a certified physician assistant. She works with Dr. Oliver Whipple in all aspects of patient care, including pre-operative assessments, intra-operative surgical assisting, hospital admission care, and post-operative visits. Hannah also conducts public information seminars and patient education classes. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Aurora University in Illinois and a Master of Science - physician assistant degree from South University in Savannah. Hannah is a member of the Georgia Association of Physician Assistants and does frequent volunteer work in the community.

    Rachel Lawson, MSK
    Rachel Lawson is our exercise physiologist. She helps patients design safe and manageable exercise programs. Lawson earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, and a master's degree in kinesiology with a focus in exercise physiology from Georgia Southern. She specializes in helping people with unique exercise needs.

    Amber Morrison
    Amber Morrison is one of our practice representatives. She greets incoming patients, answers the main office phone, and checks patients in and out. Morrison also provides general information about the practice, reminds patients of upcoming appointments, schedules appointments, and helps patients stay updated through the pre-operative process.

    Kristina (Tina) Steinberg, R.D.
    Tina Steinberg is a registered dietitian who earned a bachelor's degree in nutrition and dietetics from Georgia State University and a master's degree in education with a minor in nutrition education from the University of Georgia. Steinberg is part of a team that teaches patients new lifestyle techniques, eating habits, and behavioral strategies to ensure long-term weight-loss success. She also monitors patients’ blood work and makes dietary recommendations to avoid or correct nutritional deficiencies.

    Lindsey Strickland, MHSA
    Lindsey Strickland oversees day-to-day operations including activity within the office, scheduling, verifying insurance eligibility and requirements, ordering office supplies, and coordinating the physicians' schedules. She earned a bachelor's degree in management with a minor in finance from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro and a master's degree in health services administration from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah.

    Meghan Thompson
    Meghan Thompson is one of our practice representatives. She greets incoming patients, answers the main office phone, and checks patients in and out. Thompson also provides general information about the practice, reminds patients of upcoming appointments, schedules appointments, and helps patients stay updated through the pre-operative process.

    Sharon Wakeland
    Sharon Wakeland is the surgery scheduler for Memorial Health Bariatrics. She works with patients to schedule surgery, EGD tests, and pre- and post-operative appointments.

    Sara Watson, BSN, R.N.
    Sara Watson is a registered nurse and our bariatric coordinator. She is responsible for ongoing development, coordination, and management of Memorial Health Bariatrics. Watson works with patients through their pre- and post-operative periods. She teaches the pre-operative education class that is required of all patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Watson holds a bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State University and previously worked in the emergency department.

    Gloria White, CMA
    Gloria White is a certified medical assistant (CMA). She helps to keep the office running smoothly by preparing patients’ charts, scheduling tests, handling patient correspondence, and ordering needed medical supplies. White holds an associate’s degree from South University.
