The American Board of Pediatrics expects and encourages every resident to participate in a scholarly activity. Each resident should develop a research project during the three years in our residency program. Residents may pursue projects under the mentoring of faculty in general pediatrics or pediatric subspecialists with research experience.
Institutional support is available through Memorial University Medical Center in the form of grants, study design, study coordination, statistical support, medical editing, and writing. Residents gain skills in formal presentation by presenting at resident grand rounds on a topic of interest. Residents are also encouraged to present their scholarly activities and research at local venues such as the annual Memorial University Medical Center and Mercer University School of Medicine Research Day, as well as regional and national specialty meetings.
