For the convenience of our patients, we perform all of our ultrasounds right here in our own offices. Our sonographer, Robin Moore Godbold, has more than 25 years of experience and is exceptional in her work.
Ten to 12 weeks into your pregnancy, we can usually detect the fetal heartbeat by performing a Doppler ultrasound. However, at six weeks of gestation, you may be able to see the fetal heartbeat by ultrasound. Your doctor may or may not want to order an ultrasound at this time.
At approximately 20 weeks, you will have an ultrasound to check the fetal anatomy and make sure that all of the organs are present. The ultrasound does not tell us how the organs function. We can usually tell if the baby is a boy or a girl at this point. Please let the ultrasonographer know if you wish to be informed of the sex of your baby.
There may be other instances throughout your pregnancy when your doctor will order an ultrasound.
