• The General Surgery Residency Program at Memorial University Medical Center offers five categorical positions for the upcoming academic year. No preliminary positions are offered. Applications are accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Additional information regarding the program can be accessed via the American Medical Association's FREIDA Online.

Applicants should have graduated from medical school within the last two years (with the exception of active duty military service) and passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), Steps 1 and 2 with a minimum score of 210 (first attempt) on both steps. Please note that our program does not sponsor visas. Only completed applications are considered. Complete applications must be received through ERAS and include the following information:

    • ERAS application form
    • Curriculum vitae
    • MSPE (dean’s letter)
    • Medical school transcript
    • Official copies of USMLE transcript of scores (steps 1 and 2)
    • Personal statement
    • Photo
    • Three letters of recommendation (one letter from program chair/director preferred)

Applicants selected for an interview are contacted via e-mail to schedule a date for their interview. Please be sure to include your email address as part of your ERAS application. Once you have been selected to interview, plan to arrive in Savannah the afternoon before your interview. Interviews are scheduled on Thursdays between November 1 and January 15. The deadline for applications is December 1. However, early applications are encouraged as interview slots fill quickly for our categorical positions.

Thank you for your interest in our program. If you have additional questions about our application process, please contact Debbie Wells, surgical education residency program coordinator at WellsDe1@memorialhealth.com.
