Memorial Health officials today reaffirmed their plans to build freestanding emergency rooms in Pooler and Richmond Hill. Following a comprehensive and rigorous legal process, the Supreme Court of Georgia declined to hear the appeal challenging the Georgia Department of Community Health’s (DCH) approval for these facilities.

“We’re excited that, after a long legal process, the Supreme Court of Georgia’s decision means we can finally move forward with building freestanding emergency rooms in Pooler and Richmond Hill. These are two of the fastest-growing communities in our region, and families there deserve access to high-quality emergency care close to home,” said Brad Talbert, CEO of Memorial Health.

Each facility will be staffed 24/7 by board-certified emergency physicians and nurses, with full imaging and lab capabilities—bringing the same level of care people expect from Memorial Health’s main hospital in Savannah. Physicians at these facilities will be able to diagnose and treat patients with serious medical conditions, provide emergency treatment, and if necessary, transfer the patient to the hospital for additional care.

Our goal is simple: make it easier and faster for people to get the care they need — because when minutes matter, care close to home can make all the difference. “This is about saving time, saving lives, and serving our neighbors where they live. We’re proud to move ahead and deliver on our commitment to expand access to care in coastal Georgia,’ said Talbert.
