Professional nursing advancement opportunities
We value the contributions of nurses at all skill levels, and also encourage career advancement. Our hospital system has designed what we call a professional nursing ladder, which helps nurses grow and advance professionally, while focusing on their clinical practice.
The professional nursing ladder is designed to:
- Enable professional nurses at the bedside to direct our hospital nursing practices
- Provide opportunities for professional nurses at the bedside to share their expertise at the unit and organizational levels
- Recognize and reward clinical excellence and promote professional growth
There are four levels within the professional nursing ladder. Participation above the registered nurse (RN) II level is voluntary. Performance expectations increase in scope and complexity from RN I to RN IV. To advance from one level to the next, nurses must submit an application that includes information such as proof of membership in nursing organizations, proof of research or ongoing education and proof of exceptional performance in specified areas. By climbing the ladder, nurses empower themselves to control their careers and achieve specific goals.
