Inpatient mental health care

If you would benefit from 24/7 behavioral health services, our hospital's campus houses a 26-bed inpatient mental health facility for adults.

The goal of inpatient mental health care is to provide stability, daily coping skills and an environment to work towards achieving overall wellness.

Our specialists provide reassurance and support throughout the length of your stay. We encourage you to participate in the everyday activities that make up our mental health program. Features of our facility include:

  • Alone time for contemplation and reflection
  • Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)
  • Group therapy
  • Individual therapy
  • Leisure time
  • Life skills training
  • Nutritious meals
  • Physical fitness events
  • Recreation time

ECT

ECT is a more drastic treatment for severe mental illness. During therapy, electrodes are applied to the scalp and an electrical stimulus is used, causing the brain to release neurotransmitters.

Most commonly used to treat bipolar disorder, catatonia, depression and suicidal thoughts, ECT can help reduce the severity and frequency of associated mental health symptoms.

About 80 percent of those we treat through ECT find rapid relief from existing symptoms. To determine if ECT is an appropriate treatment option for you, we will first have you undergo a complete psychiatric evaluation and medical assessment.

Outpatient mental health programs

Outside of an inpatient hospital stay, we offer two different options for adults in need of structured behavioral health care. We offer an intensive outpatient program (IOP), as well as a partial hospitalization program (PHP), which provides more structure and support than the IOP.

IOP

This program allows you to receive comprehensive psychiatric care during the day and return home in the afternoon. Sessions are conducted four days a week, and typically last for two to four weeks.

While our IOP requires fewer hours of participation during the week, our psychiatrists still provide structured care by teaching you coping skills that will help you transition to normal daily life. We also offer an IOP that specifically addresses addictive disorders.

If you participate in our IOP, you will have access to individual therapy, family education and medication monitoring.

PHP

Our PHP gives you access to intensive mental health care services, without needing to stay at the hospital overnight. You may participate in this program as a step-down in care following an inpatient hospital stay, enabling you to develop effective strategies for achieving a better state of mental health.

This program includes a minimum of four group therapy sessions per day, and a total of approximately 20 hours per week of therapeutic and group activities.

Planning for discharge and recovery

Aftercare planning is a critical part of your mental health treatment. We work to set you up for success by enhancing your self-understanding and coping skills, helping you navigate daily life after your time in our care.

Accessing our mental health care

If you were previously seen elsewhere for a mental or addictive disorder, we can provide you with continued care if it's in your best interest.
