Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)
HBOT is a treatment used for chronic, nonhealing wounds. During HBOT, you are enclosed in a vessel called a hyperbaric chamber. While inside, you will breathe 100 percent oxygen at a pressure greater than the normal atmosphere. Hyperbaric medicine helps wounds heal faster, and can also be useful in defending against certain types of infection.
Additionally, HBOT helps stimulate the growth of new blood vessels, which can improve your circulation and contribute to wound healing.
