Hip replacement
You may need hip replacement surgery if your daily activity is limited by chronic hip pain caused by joint wear, injury or arthritis. During this procedure, an orthopedic surgeon removes damaged or diseased cartilage and bone from the hip and replaces them with prosthetic pieces.
Conditions we treat with hip replacements
Our joint specialists can treat wear and tear, injuries and chronic orthopedic conditions, such as:
- Arthritis
- Chronic pain
- Infection
- Injury
- Low circulation to your thigh bone
Presurgical education
Before you experience hip replacement surgery, we will facilitate a presurgical class for you and your caregivers to attend. In your free session, we will discuss:
- Adaptive equipment
- Anatomy
- Discharge
- Home safety
- Occupational therapy
- Pain management
- Physical therapy
- Postoperative nursing care
- Preoperative exercises
At least two weeks before your procedure, we will prepare you for what to expect before, during and after surgery. You will also take home a handbook that includes your appointments and relevant testing information for your condition.
Rehabilitation after joint replacement
For several weeks after your hip replacement surgery, we recommend attending physical therapy sessions. There, our dedicated therapists provide the exercises and adaptive equipment assistance you need to promote a strong recovery. We will also work with you to improve your ability to perform daily activities, such as getting dressed, bathing and simple household tasks.
